The 2024 Chambers Europe directory has been published today. In addition to the recognition in the previously published Chambers Global 2024 guide of 16 VBB lawyers across five practice areas and the rankings of the firm’s key Trade, Competition and Corporate/M&A practices, Chambers Europe continues to give top rankings to the Belgian (domestic) competition practice (Band 2) and the Life Sciences practice (Band 1). The Competition team wins praise for its “in-depth knowledge”, “excellent talents” and the fact that “ it knows our business very well ...[and’ can understand our markets and other relevant deals.” On the Life Sciences side, clients acknowledge the firm’s “great team of lawyers with a very deep knowledge of the law and the case law” and highlight the team’s understanding of the “economic and social environments of the life sciences industries”.

VBB founding partner Jean-François Bellis is singled out as a Senior Statesperson in the International Trade/WTO category. Other individual rankings go to Life Sciences co-heads Peter L’Ecluse and Catherine Longeval for their life sciences expertise, with Peter L’Ecluse also recognised in the context of the Competition: Domestic category. Catherine is appreciated for being “very responsive and accurate” while Peter is “a great partner with whom one may share ideas on complex cases”. Competition clients remarks include “Peter L’Ecluse is a brilliant guy, He is a good litigator and very tough to fight against”.
