International trade partner Michelle Linderman and counsel Joanna Redelbach are guest speakers at the Maritime Law Association of South Africa (MLASA)’s AGM and annual conference taking place in Durban on 25-27 August. This year’s conference has an environmental focus, with the overarching theme of “Defending our oceans: combating the threats”.

Michelle will speak on the unintended environmental consequences of the current sanctions packages against Russia. Joanna will present on the impact on South African trade and shipping of two key EU tools to combat climate change: the Emissions Trading System and the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism.

MLASA was set up by the South African shipping industry to promote the development of maritime and other transport laws. As a member of the Comité Maritime International (CMI), it is a forum for the advancement of South Africa’s maritime and logistics law internationally and provides input to the CMI on South Africa’s position on international maritime and logistics law.
