EU Member States vote in favour of the first-ever IPI measures

The EU is set to make the first use of its enforcement powers under the International Procurement Instrument (IPI) and, after failing to persuade the Chinese government to open Chinese markets to EU producers, intends to severely curtail access of Chinese medical device makers to the EU. This will be a test case for the IPI, and it remains to be seen whether its use, alone or in conjunction with other instruments in the EU’s toolbox, will improve market access and lead to a more open EU-China trade relationship.
