Ross Denton

Overview

Ross has been involved in international trade and compliance issues for almost 35 years for Japanese and US multinationals. Ross has expertise in working with IT companies, the oil and gas sectors, and financial institutions. His practice has focused on:

Export controls and sanctions
•Undertaken risk assessments, and developed and implemented training programmes, on issues such as screening, classification and licensing
•Audited and undertaken internal investigations
•Made voluntary disclosures of breach to multiple agencies (including HM Treasury\OFSI, HMRC)
•Represented clients before agencies concerning breaches (including HMRC and the National Crime Agency); and
•Undertaken remedial work to ensure that breaches are dealt with and cannot re-occur.

International trade work
•All aspects of customs work, including classification, origin, valuation and procedures
•Undertaken WTO dispute settlement for governments
•Undertaken trade remedies (dumping, subsidy and safeguards) cases, including appeals before the EU Courts of Justice
•Advised on and assisted in implementation of free trade agreements, including NAFTA, EU-Canada, EU-Singapore, and EU-Japan.

Ross' compliance practice has focused on:
Bribery, AML, terrorist financing and failure to prevent tax evasion. Ross has:
•Undertaken risk assessments, and developed and implemented training programmes, on issues such as client intake procedures, including enhanced due diligence and screening
•Audited and undertaken internal investigations
•Made voluntary disclosures of breach to multiple agencies (including SFO, National Crime Agency, OLAF and DoJ); and
•Undertaken remedial work to ensure that breaches are dealt with and cannot re-occur.

Integration of compliance risk assessment and procedures. Ross has undertaken development of integrated risk management and compliance procedures.
