Peter L’Ecluse focuses on regulatory law, including life sciences and competition law.

Regulatory law

Peter has extensive experience in offering strategic advice in regulatory matters and litigating regulatory disputes with both governmental authorities and private parties. His focus is on energy, life sciences, and telecommunications. 

Life sciences

Peter’s expertise encompasses a wide range of areas, including market access, pricing and reimbursement, advertising issues, and all aspects of competition law.  He is Co-head of the VBB Life sciences group.

Competition law

Peter has been involved in most of the significant cases arising before the Belgian competition authorities and the courts. His expertise in this area extends to merger control, foreign direct investment, cartels, dominant market positions, and procedural issues.

  1. Acting for Swiss Transmission System Operator Swissgrid in various pieces of litigation against European Commission before European courts, including dispute regarding electricity balancing platforms (case C121/23 P, Swissgrid v. European Commission, judgment of 13 February 2025).
  2. Representing three electricity suppliers in seeking European Commission exemption from application of public procurement rules to electricity production and wholesale markets in Belgium pursuant to Article 34 of “Utilities” Directive 2014/25/EU.  
  3. Acting for Haleon in a case alleged to involve category management before the Belgian Competition Authority (decision of 24 April 2025).
  4. Advising a major market actor regarding competition law aspects of combination therapies of medicinal products (2023-2024).
  5. Acting for Le Creuset in a distribution case before the Belgian Competition Authority (decision of 13 December 2023).
  6. Successfully defending a meteorological company in competition cases before the Belgian Competition Authority and civil courts (2018 – 2019).
  7. Co-arguing landmark competition cases before the European Courts (case C-126/97, Eco Swiss China Time v. Benetton, judgment of 1 June 1999; case  T-111/96, ITT Promedia v. European Commission, judgment of 17 July 1998).
