Andreas was named VBB’s Managing Partner in January 2024. He has more than 30 years’ experience advising international clients on a wide range of high-profile competition matters, including major EU merger control cases and behavioural investigations.

Andreas also frequently counsels on a range of complex antitrust issues in connection with product development, pricing, and distribution strategies.

Andreas leads VBB’s cross-practice group on the EU Foreign Subsidies Regulation (FSR). He counsels international clients on FSR compliance and has represented clients in FSR notifications and investigations. He works across a broad range of sectors, with particular expertise in the digital & tech, transport, and consumer products sectors.

In addition to his time in private practice, which has involved working in both Brussels and Washington, DC, Andreas has served as Director of the Fordham Competition Law Institute at Fordham Law School, New York, and as a Principal Administrator at the OECD’s Competition Division in Paris. He is a member of the Board of the American Chamber of Commerce to the European Union (AmCham EU).

Andreas has taught U.S. antitrust law, European competition law, intellectual property law and EU law at the University of Michigan Law School, and at Fordham Law School, New York, as well as in Europe.

Representative matters

  1. Gigaset Communications LLC, a manufacturer of mobile phones and other telecommunications equipment, as an intervener in support of Google in Google’s appeal to the EU Court of Justice against the General Court’s judgment upholding parts of the European Commission decision in the Google/Android case.
  2. Nuctech in an ongoing FSR ex-officio investigation that was initiated by the European Commission’s first unannounced inspection, in particular with regard to appeals against the Commission’s inspection decision.
  3. Intel in its appeal against the EUR 376 million fine imposed in 2023 by the European Commission for certain restrictions which were not annulled by the General Court in its previous judgment finding that the Commission had failed to establish that Intel’s rebates infringed Article 102 TFEU (in which we also acted for Intel and the Association for Competitive Technology).
  4. Longstanding client Nippon Steel on the EU merger control and FSR aspects of its proposed USD 14.9 billion acquisition of US Steel.
  5. Boeing on the EU merger control aspects of its proposed acquisition of Brazilian regional jet manufacturer Embraer, subject to an EU Phase 2 review until the transaction was aborted.
  6. Carlsberg in an investigation by the Swedish competition authority (Konkurrensverket) concerning distribution practices for beer in the Swedish horeca sector.
