VAN BAEL & BELLIS NEWSFLASH COVID-19: Ensuring safety and continuation of services to clients

In order to protect the health of our lawyers and staff while ensuring an uninterrupted service to our clients, Van Bael and Bellis has switched to remote working mode as of Saturday, 14 March. The transition took place seamlessly and our systems are fully operational. All our remote working tools continue to guarantee the confidentiality and integrity of our email and file servers. In accordance with public health recommendations, non-essential face-to-face meetings are replaced by videoconferencing and international travel has been suspended until further notice. In all other aspects, our services will continue unaffected. In case you would have any queries in this respect, please do not hesitate to contact us.

    Distribution across Europe and the UK Verticals regime: Do you really need to mind the “gap”?

    Long awaited developments over the summer provided some appreciable clarity on the refreshed UK distribution regime (following the UK’s withdrawal from the EU).     Isabelle Van Damme speaks on “The Brussels effect as a model of regulatory design” at the Institute for European Law at KU Leuven

    On 25 June 2021, Van Bael & Bellis partner Isabelle Van Damme spoke at the closing event of the academic year entitled “The Brussels effect and Brexit” organized by the Institute for European law at KU Leuven. The topic of Isabelle’s presentation was “The Brussels effect as a model of regulatory design”. Isabelle looked at the promotion of the EU’s internal and external interests which is increasingly driven by the regulation of global externalities: the so-called Brussels effect seen as a model of regulatory design rather than market-driven, visible in the EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement. The other speaker was Prof. Anu Bradford, Columbia Law School, who opened the event and spoke on the topic of “The Brussels Effect: How the European Union Rules the World”.
