On 7 May 2017, centrist candidate Emmanuel Macron was elected President of France with 66% of the vote. Given the increased political weight of France in the European Union (“EU”) after Brexit, Emmanuel Macron’s position regarding free trade and globalisation is likely to shape the EU’s trade policies in the foreseeable future.

    Gabriele Coppo speaks at the ERA Annual Conference on EU Environmental Law

    On 19-20 March 2020, Van Bael & Bellis partner Gabriele Coppo participated as a speaker in the online livestream Annual Conference on EU Environmental Law organised by ERA. Gabriele's presentation focused on linkages between EU trade law and environmental policy.     On 21 February 2020, Van Bael & Bellis counsel Isabelle Van Damme spoke on “Shifting from WTO to bilateral FTAs: current landscape and future developments” at the Club Español del Arbitraje (“CEA”) Annual Conference 2020 titled “A new landscape for EU law and arbitration: challenges and opportunities”, hosted at the Brussels office of Van Bael Bellis. Isabelle’s presentation focused on explaining why dispute settlement under FTAs should be of interest to investment lawyers, before turning to a discussion of some of the novel aspects and the future of dispute settlement under FTAs.
