Beneluxa Countries Launch Website on Medicine Cooperation

The four Beneluxa countries which signed up to cooperate on medicines, including specific aspects of medicine procurement (Austria, Belgium, Luxemburg and The Netherlands), today launched their website at the following address: http://www.beneluxa.org/en.

The website, whose creation had been promised earlier this year, has so far been the most public and transparent form of structured action of the Beneluxa venture and details the principal areas of medicine cooperation. These are (i) horizon scanning; (ii) health technology assessment; (iii) exchange of information; and (iv) joint negotiations in specific pricing and reimbursement files.

The website features the terms of reference of the cooperation as well as a report by the Belgian Healthcare Knowledge Centre on horizon scanning for medicines. Other than these documents, however, information on the website is scarce. For example, the website indicates that a number of pilot projects on medicine pricing and reimbursement are “ongoing” but does not offer further details regarding this crucially important aspect of the Beneluxa venture. It is hoped that more information will ensue soon.
