Van Bael & Bellis partner Andreas Reindl interviews Director General Olivier Guersent on EU’s antitrust policy and enforcement priorities

Van Bael & Bellis competition partner Andreas Reindl recently sat down with the newly appointed Director General of the European Commission’s Competition Directorate (DG COMP) to discuss a range of competition-related topics. In particular, the pair explored organisational and policy challenges faced by DG COMP, its enforcement practices in the areas of cartels and mergers, and policy initiatives in the broader context of Europe’s key political debates. The Director General also shared his thoughts on his role: “I am only the COO in this organisation. I have a CEO, Margrethe Vestager. I propose, we discuss, we usually agree, but in the end of the day, the decisions are hers.”
