Van Bael & Bellis partner and head of London competition team Alex Stratakis was quoted extensively by Global Competition Review (GCR) in an article on the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority’s (CMA) most recent prohibition (the third this year), ordering investment platform software provider FNZ to undo its acquisition of rival GBST. Alex commented on the CMA’s decision and highlighted the risks that purchasers take in going ahead with a transaction without giving adequate prior consideration to the UK “voluntary” in name only regime: which is “perhaps the toughest merger control regime to navigate globally at the moment”.
