On 8 October 2020, Van Bael & Bellis partner and head of competition Andrzej Kmiecik participated in a webinar on the European Commission White Paper on Foreign Subsidies organised by Wolters Kluwer. The webinar focused on legal, economic and policy issues related to the initiative, from both a competition and trade perspective. Andrzej’s remarks focused on the broader policy context and the legal challenges for the Commission in introducing the measures contemplated by the White Paper.
The other participants were Eddy de Smijter, Head of international relations at DG Comp and leading the White Paper project, Elisabetta Righini, Partner at Latham & Watkins, Brussels, Thomas Wilson, Partner at Kirkland & Ellis, London and Roberta Piermartini, Chief of Trade Cost Analysis at WTO. Simon Bellamy, Acquisition Manager at Wolters Kluwer International Group welcomed participants and attendees to the webinar which was chaired by Paulo Brunier da Silveira, Senior Competition Expert at OECD.
